About Us

We are a "Machiya" Guest House for visitors from overseas to this historical capital of Japan, Kyoto. Machiya (町屋) is a traditional wooden townhouse found throughout Japan, typically in the historical capital of Kyoto.

Our Machiya building was built originally as a private mansion 100 years ago. However, after World war II, the new owner of this building used it as a Tsukemono (漬物;Japanese traditional pickle) store. This machiya building has lived through, literally, the 100 years of Kyoto’s history. This April, we renovated this old machiya building freshly into the new hostel "O-yado Sato". We would like to offer all of our guests a comfortable and cozy place with the atmosphere of traditional Kyoto during the stay in our hostel. We sincerely hope you can make a good memory here in Kyoto and our Ryokan.
